A Case of the Mondays...

This weekend I prepared for a congratulations/ surprise/ I love you party, celebrating my husband's first day of the police academy, leading to a weekend long attempt to clean the apartment. The living room, kitchen and guest bedroom were clean, but I definitely did not use our bedroom to throw everything that did not have a place. Including the two cats, the litter box, and everything from piles and piles of clean and dirty laundry, boxes, and school stuff.

When my sweet little niece asked me where the kitties were and if she could go and see them, I would never tell her, "Oh they are in the bedroom. But they are really tired and sleeping!" Which really meant, NOOOO! Please don't open that door! Not me! Not Aunt Katie!

After a fantastic, and may I add successful, surprise party I definitely put every dish and trash away in it's place. I would never hide the last two pieces of cookie cake in the oven on a baking sheet until the next day. Not me! My kitchen is always spotless...

On a chilly Monday morning, 5:20 came way too soon. After hitting the snooze and contemplating getting out of bed to shower the cold breeze from the open window and the warm comforter changed my mind. I did not talk myself out of a shower due to the fact that today was Hats Off to Being Drug Free day at school, allowing my adorable Life is Good hat to cover my day old hair do. I NEVER trade in a shower for 45 extra minutes of sleep! :/

While reading MckMama's Not Me Monday post, the words sounded all too familiar to my Monday evening..... Trying to be the Stepford wife that I am, I turned on my oven to pre heat for my friend Betty Crocker's pre made chicken pasta then returning to the couch to finish Oprah. No, I did not forget about the baking sheet of cookie cake holding one of our knifes with the plastic handle on the bottom shelf of the oven!!!! The putrid smell of burning plastic and over cooked cookie cake interrupted Oprah's BFF Nate Berkus. Needless to say we are down one steak knife and I will need to find another dessert for this week. Things like this NEVER happen to me!

Now my oven did not look as bad as MckMama's, but I did take comfort in the fact that this did in fact happen to someone else, and on the same day.... this was a bad case of a NOT ME MONDAY! I feel you MckMama! :)

FALLing in Love <3

This year I have fallen in love with Fall... Here are a few reasons why I am loving it this year.

Fall is... opening the windows (FINALLY!) The Texas heat means very few days of the year that we can turn off the air conditioning. For almost the past two weeks straight we have been able to leave our porch door open and let the breeze fill our apartment. I absolutely love that we have a pretty big wrap around porch with a screen door in our apartment. Which now is filled with patio furniture, due to the seester moving out of her apartment. Funny story about the screen door: One night when Tom and I got home from work we opened the sliding glass door and Kali, our dog, ran right into the screen door which was still closed. It was funny... she hid her head under the bed that night because she was so embarrassed.

Fall is... keeping the husband happy with all things PUMPKIN! Pumpkin custard, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin bagels, pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie... I have never met one person who loves fall this much because it means pumpkin season is here. I love him! I have found some amazing pumpkin spice candles following The Nester's advice, adding candles to your home and lighting them EVERY night! (I love her by the way...) One day after feeling like a was neglecting my husband having only PB& J sandwiches for dinner I went to the store to get some lemon pepper for our salmon, green bean and pasta dinner. I was so excited when I found....

I had one ecstatic husband when he walked in the door after a rainy day at work on the golf course and found dinner on the table and this delight in the freezer. And one thing I have realized very quickly in our (almost) seven months of marriage is...

Fall is.... snuggling! I love curling up under a blanket with the husband. Again, Texas leaves little time where you can stand within a foot of another person without radiating heat. If anyone knows our kitty Tucker, you know he is not a snuggler. But this weekend he found himself a new favorite spot... snuggling with the husband. Needless to say I am a little bit jealous but found the manly bonding quite cute! Tom finds it where he can in an apartment full of females.

Fall is... amazing weekends with family and friends! As the holiday season grows closer am I reminded how thankful I am for living so close to good family and friends. After a long week with the Kindergartners I have never been so grateful for the weekends and enjoy every second of them. Last weekend Tom and I got to see the Texas A&M .vs. Arkansas football game in the new Cowboys Stadium, "Jerry World!" It was amazing. (My good camera is at school, I will add pics later.) Even though the Aggie lost, I still had an amazing time with Tom and his old work friends.

This weekend our friend Jenna flew in from East Texas for a long weekend. It was so good to see her. We didn't let the rain stop our shopping spree. I have fallen in love with the holiday scents from Bath and Body Works, and they are having AMAZING sales. Now our bathroom soaps match the fall theme. Love it. Fall is... the first day of the Arlington Police Academy for the husband! This time next week Tom will have completed his first day of the Academy! We had a bit of a deja vu from the summer but God is was faithful and all is well. I could not be more excited for him... he is going to do great! I have a little surprise for him on his first day, so check back next week for the surprise.

Yes, it is official.. I have FALLen in love with Fall. Next comes the Christmas music!!!! My one true love, it's a bit early for that. I guess the new Michael Buble CD will hold me over until then. Happy Fall Y'all! :)

I've got the Fever!

Yes, I have finally caught the fever. Not the good kind either... Thursday morning I woke up with a sore throat and it progressively got worse throughout the school day. After school I was on the way to my first year teacher meeting in tears because I felt so crummy. Because teachers have some of the biggest hearts, they let me leave so I could make it to Rapid Med for an appointment.

What a crock, Rapid Med.... not so rapid. My sister was kind enough to sit with me. Funny story, when we were waiting for the "Rapid" doctor to come in after a quick swab of my throat another nurse swooped in and proceeded to tell me, "The doctor wants to go ahead and do a chest Xray." A little drastic after the nurse's diagnosis with a throat swab, and the doctor had not seen me yet. Megan and I thought it was hysterical... another one of those had to be there moments. Turns out they switched alot of the charts and our not so rapid doctor's visit turned into 2 1/2 hour adventure.

With a fever and a swollen throat I concluded that Friday I would take my first sick day. While waiting for my prescriptions I went back up to the school to work on substitute plans for the next day. Now I know why it was so hard to get a sub job last school year, no one wants to write plans for substitutes... they take FOREVER!

I headed home to relax, finish my plans and snuggle in to watch Grey's. Suffering through preparing the plans was worth it this morning when I woke up worse than yesterday. The husband was so sweet! He headed into the kitchen to make me some scrambled eggs... CRASH! All of the eggs broke on the floor. Not letting that discourage him, he headed to Einstein's bagel with Chip and brought me back a bagel sandwich and a smoothie with extra vitamins.

Love HIM, love HIM! The hydrocodone kept me dozing off all day, and between the naps it was the first time I became thankful for the extra $20/ month we pay for HBO. I love movies! And I watched the last episode of the Office.... love Michael Scott!

I am so thankful for my day of rest! I am starting to feel better, but I wish I was feeling well enough to be at The House of Blues with the hubster and Chip. Instead I am snuggling with Kali and debating between Sex and the City on HBO or a Lifetime movie. Decisions, decisions...

Happy Six Month Anniversary

It is hard to believe that today Tom and I have been married for 6 months. It has flown by so fast. It feels, like between worrying about where we would be living, and when and where we would each have a job, that just yesterday we were walking down the aisle. I cannot imagine my life without my sweet husband. He surprises me each day with his thoughtfulness.

Okay... just one sweet story. On my first day of my new teaching job this school year, Tom was in Arizona visiting a close friend. He felt bad about not being there on my first day, which it was probably a good thing because he dodged all of the stress I was feeling for the first day. Anyways..... when I came home from a long day of inservice meeting I was stressed and sad about Tom leaving but I found sweet notes everywhere. Like "#1 Teacher" in my closet! And "I know you'll do great!" on the bathroom mirror. They are still right where he left them. Whenever I have a rough day and feel like all the hours are not making a difference I am reminded that I am loved when I look at those sweet notes. I love him!

6 Month Anniversary in the life of 2 working Newlyweds!

I wouldn't have it any other way. And now laying on the couch working on the first 6 weeks report cards between blogging and movies, I am reminded how much I love my husband! So much that I am staying awake way past my bedtime to witness him playing his pre- ordered, midnight released Halo 3 ODST for the first time! I do, I do love my husband!

Hump Day...

Oh hump day, hump day with your ups and downs... why are you so cruel?!? It was just one of those days. Last night was a long night. Only 3 parents showed up to meet me before the PTA meeting which was a bit disappointing, and after a long PTA I decided for one night I was going to bring nothing home with me. I was so excited... only to be disappointed the next morning.

After my alarm clock failed to go off, my internal "morning/teacher" clock went off leaving me no time to shower... OH yeah, I was the stinky kid today. Bad start to the morning. Then I realized, while deciding to leave everything at school, this included my make up bag. So with a naked, "au naturale" face I made it school with little time to spare.

I am trying my darndest to stay away from the flu, but it is lurking around every corner at school. Kindergartners are not the best at keeping their germs to themselves. Doesn't everyone love a sweet, snotty hug? I used to love the rainy weather, but not when it means 3 days straight of indoor recess. Headache all day. And on the craziest day of the year thus far I was observed by a district employee who walked around scribbling down secretive notes for 10 long minutes.. Oh I love you hump day, Wednesday.

After a long school day I stopped by Target/ Starbucks for an afternoon pick me up to cure the rainy day blues... Mocha in hand I walked out the store and paused to brave the rain. Here is the scenario that MADE MY DAY:

Me, Target employee waiting to load furniture for an elderly woman

Old, silver, (some kind of) car.. pulls up to the curb with a screech. Woman gets out leaving

young daughter in the car and keys in the ignition, engine running.

Woman storms into Target.

Me: "Geeeeeez!"

Target Employee: "Well I guess it is Park Wherever You Want Day"....

Okay, maybe it was one of those "you had to be there" moments or maybe I was just having the Hump Day Blues but that comment made my day! I love how the smallest thing/ look / comment can turn your day around! And a grande white mocha helps too! :)

P.S. To feed the teenage girl hormones still looming inside- me and my two loves will be going to see the... one and only... Ms. Britney Spears in concert!!!!!!!!! Oh don't lie you know you can still sing every single word to Hit Me Baby One More Time. Well I will be screaming those words with every other teeny bopper this Friday! Cannot wait! :)

Oh Mondays you always come too soon... especially after a night of tossing and turning until 3 o'clock in the morning. A sleepless night makes for a very long day in a classroom of 17 Kindergartners. In a room full of 5 and 6 year olds I am learning a lot about patience. Today when my irritability was high and the lack of sleep was setting in I found myself with a moment of quiet time during my planning period... Doubt set in. Am I the right person for this job? ... I am not patient enough... Am I doing a good job?...

All I can do is trust. I need to trust in my ability and what I was trained to do. Confidence is something I have always lacked and as a first year teacher in a world full of vetrans, self doubt is always just around the corner.

It's hard to believe I have been teaching for almost four full weeks. Only now I feel like I am finally getting organized and can finally breathe. (Not breathing in too hard- flu is everywhere!) Now if only I can survive a meet and greet with my new parents!

I just keep telling myself it only gets easier from here on. A true blessing!

Long time, no post...

Well so far history has repeated itself... I have failed to update our blog for a few weeks. A lot has been going on in the Hruskocy home. First Tom has been hired on with the Arlington Police Department!!! We could not be more excited! After a grueling application process we found out he will be starting the police academy on October 19th. It was a long time waiting for an answer but we both could not be more excited! Until then he will be working at a golf course near our apartment where he will be able to golf for free. Not a bad way to pass the time. I cannot wait to see my husband in uniform.

We celebrated Tom and my cousin, Chip's, 25th birthday last weekend with some friends in Fort Worth at Sundance Square. The next day we went over to the Hruskocy home to celebrate with the whole family. It is a tradition with the Hruskocy family to get a cookie cake for all birthdays. This year Tom's cake had a police car on it! It was so nice to spend the weekend with the people who mean the most to us... it makes us appreciate living so close to friends and family.

That same weekend I had to move classrooms to a different school. After four days with my Kindergarten class and surviving a Meet the Teacher Night and Parent Orientation I found out that due to low enrollment and me being the low man on the totem pole I was required to move. Luckily I was able to stay in a Kindergarten classroom and not move to a different grade level. The school is actually A LOT closer to our apartment and I truly love the school! It really was a blessing in disguise. I was very happy at my first school and working for my fourth grade teacher but this feels like a better fit for me. Now, I have made it through week 2 of being a Kindergarten teacher and my new kindergartners and I have adjusted to the change and had an amazing first week together! Although this year is going to take a lot of hard work I am so excited to see what the year will bring.

Each day I fall more and more in love with my husband. Although we had to struggle through some hardships we are now in an amazing place together. Only with God's grace have we made it to where we are. I am so excited to see what this year has in store for us and we are both starting our carers and growing together as a newly married couple.
