Thankful

I am so....
sooooooo......

and thankful for this man.

Turkey Trot

In order to prepare for the two Thanksgiving feasts that me and my mister attend each year me and a few friends from Grapevine Crossfit went to run the Turkey Trot this year. After living in Texas since kindergarten I'm a bit embarrassed to say this was my first trot. After the festivities and the company of great friends I think I may be a repeat offender.

There were only a few brave souls from the gym that braved the 40 degree temperatures. Decked out in some pretty sweet turkey headbands, if I do say so myself...
Love my friends.

They were really excited about the headbands.

Love these ladies.

Knowing now about the rain and the cold wind during the trot I maybe.... would've stayed in bed snuggled all cozy next to my slumbering officer. But I definitely did not feel as guilty while eating a roll during the Farrell Feast. Happy Thanksgiving Y'all! :) Hope you had a great day with your families.

Jesus is my Homeboy!

After a day off it was so nice to come back to 17 smiling faces this morning. I love teaching Kindergarten during the holiday season. Today we talked about being thankful for the things in our life. I tried to stress being thankful for the non materialistic things, maybe the things we cannot touch, and for the people in our lives. Here are some of the pages for our class book, I Am Thankful...

I told you... I have the best job ever!

"You are thinking about hearts and circles and Jesus is thinking about rectangles!"

Do you see God up there in the clouds? Always watching...

This one is my favorite! I love to see how they illustrate things. Isn't this so beautiful?

Told you... the best job ever. They are precious! With all the pictures of me and God, I guess Jesus is really my homeboy! :)

Hookie with the Hubs

Shhhh... the little devil on my shoulder got the best of me this time. I stayed home from work today to spend some much needed time with my sweet husband. It seems like we haven't been seeing much of each other lately so it took very little to convince me to use one of my days to stay home on my officer's day off. The day could not have gone better.

It actually started last night. After Crossfit we went and ate dinner at Rockfish and then to see a movie. We may or may not have squeezed in a piece of Carmel de Leche cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, which may or may not have been Heaven on Earth, literally. It had been a long time since I got to snuggle next to my love in a movie theater. We went to go see Morning Glory which I highly recommend. It had me crying because I was laughing so hard! This morning while the hubs slept in I seized the beautiful day heading to Sprouts to stock the fridge and the Dollar Tree for a few Christmas purchases for the upcoming Christmasing of the house. Fall is in full swing here in Texas! Finally... I love that I can drink steaming hot Blueberry Coffee without sweating through my clothes. The windows were down, Taylor Swift's new CD was on and I knew I had made the right choice to take a day to just be...

Loving the Fall Colors
We had big plans for our day together because we are going.......

CAMPING!!!!!! That's right after almost 6 years of begging we are actually going! (I am not above pleading from the knees for come roasted weenies!) The Saturday after Thanksgiving we will be two fishin', shootin', camp firin', smore makin' campers. I am so excited! We will finally be able to use the tent we got for a wedding present that has made friends with the cobwebs and bugsthatwillnotbenamed in the laundry room.
I think he's excited too

That's right folks.. we had big plans. We were on a hunt for sleeping bags. Now my northern friends will laugh but it has been quite cold at night here in the Lonestar State and our sweatshirt blankets just are not going to cut it. But I was not prepared for the wide selection of sleeping bags Academy had to offer. During my last sleeping bag purchase the biggest decision I had to make was; Sleeping Beauty or Little Mermaid. I never had to think about longitude or latitude of a sleeping bag, or the brand, or if I wanted cocoon or regular. Say what? Good thing my sweet was a Boy Scout. My one year of Brownie training did not prepare me for this decision... although I can open a door with my thumb taped to the palm of my hand. Can you?!?
After visiting with the family we were eager to get home and try out our Slumberjacks!
Love my little mummy!
I don't know how we will be getting out in the middle of the night if we have to pee with our hand zipped in... Just sayin'! A girl's gotta think of these things.
I realized we didn't take a picture together the entire day.
Excuse the one crying eye. This is after my weekly cry during Biggest Loser...
every time it gets me.
It was the perfect day! I am so glad I got to spend the whole day playing hookie with my best friend. I am so blessed to be married to my best friend... who struggled to stand inside his mummy sack so I could "take a picture!" Oh the things we do to the ones we love...

Love y'all! :)

Tree Barf

I think I may have the best job in the world. If you would have asked me last year, with the class I had, my answer might have been a bit different... just kidding. But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my class this year! I have 17 of the sweetest Kinder babies in my class.

I love how pure and unfiltered their conversations are. Lately one of my tables has been talking about God. Melt my heart... I have heard things like, "God is always watching us" and "He always keeps us safe" and "Jesus and God are the same person!" I love listening to them and hearing about things in their Kinder minds. It warms my heart.

Then other times I cannot hold back the laughter because the things they say are so funny. Remember this story from last year? We have been learning about living and non living things and have adopted a tree to observe throughout the year as the seasons change. We talked about why and how the leaves change in the fall and then started to talk about the parts of a tree. Here is how the conversation went...

Mrs. H: "Someone raise their hands and tell me what are the different parts of a tree."
Students: "Trunk!"
"Branches!"
"Leaves!"
"Roots!"
Mrs. H: "Good! Now who can remember the part of the tree that is brown...and it covers the
trunk... it's usually bumpy... and it protects the trees insides."
Student: "BARF!!!!!!!!!!!"

Ohmygoodness! Come on Katie, hold it together... I couldn't... I lost it. I started laughing OUT LOUD... at one of my students. And I don't mean a quiet chuckle, but tears streaming down the face laughing. When I composed myself, wiped away the tears of laughter, and told them "I'm sorry I laughed but do you know what barf is?" No one did. Oh gosh, I thought. I am about to tell my students what barf is. But I was already in too deep. "Barf means throw up. Does a tree have throw up? I think you meant to say the tree has bark." And then they lost it, they were all laughing and I was too. Yes... this is just a normal day in Mrs. H's Kindergarten Class. Don't you wish I was your teacher?!?!

Ha ha. Oh geez. So along with talking about God and Jesus they are also talking about barf and tree bark. Luckily no parents have called asking why their child said they are learning about barf... that's right Teacher of the Year right here :)

A Perfect Night

Me.... in bed at 10 oclock on a Friday night.... oh how things have changed. This is my ideal night after a long and emotionally draining day. Fuzzy socks with shea butter-yes please!
Long are the nights of staying up until 2 oclock in the morning. Kali is snuggled next to me and I have a warm blanket calling my name. This sounds like a perfect way to start the weekend. Happy Friday! :)
We've got an old fashioned pig roast to go to tomorrow... are we Texan or what?!? More to come.

Happy Fall

Yesssssss... I know, I know, almost one whole month and no post. I'd like to say things have been way too exciting to post but I would be lying. Although we have been pretty busy. I'll just let you know what we have been doing around here to try and get back into the swing of things in the blogging world. It will be in number form, I'm just not feeling creative.

1. Our good friends, Bevin and Brandon got married earlier this month down in Houston. It was probably the most beautiful wedding I have ever been to. I think I want to get married again just so I can have it at Briscoe Manner. We could not be happier for our friends.

And of course, my sweet officer had to work so I made the trip alone. I had so much fun hanging out with the Crossfit Family to celebrate the Head Family. Although no one quite had the moves my husband has when SHOUT comes on.

I love these ladies. With the new Mrs. Head

2. Did I tell you that my mom and I went to Canton? I have been obsessing over this clock display. Soon, very soon, I will post a few pictures of my latest antique crafts and pretty finds from this glorious day.

3. Halloween :) Grapevine Crossfit hosted their 2nd Annual Boo Bash and 1st ever Keg Cup. Both were done in full costume. We love the 80s! Here we are with Richard Simmons... my man was sleeping after a long days/nights work. I swear I'm married, although he may be a vampire, only apprearing in the night.

One thing I love about living near family is getting to share all of the holidays with our sweet neices and nephews. I adore all six of them! Both Hruskocy's got to attend the Halloween Trick or Treating Party.

Be still my ever so fertile insides... my ovaries are chanting. Look at this little hunky monkey!

See told ya I was married.... We got to supervise all the trick or treaters from the porch that night. We felt so old! We kept talking about how our parents had to make us stop going out when we got to high school and how that night we saw 5 trick or treaters.

I do love this man...

4. Avoiding Sweets. Take a look at this carb o loaded picture. This was almost the death of me when I walked into the teacher's lounge last week. HOLY CARBS! We have been eating Paleo again for the past, almost, two weeks. This almost put me over the edge. Really? And muffins, I LOVE MUFFINS! I have been reading the Paleo Solution, which I highly recommend! It will make you never want to eat another carb or grain again. (Well except for chips and salsa :)
5. I am LOVING the new holiday cups at Starbucks... I think I'm ready to bypass November and start decorating for Christmas after seeing this beauty! The contents inside may be just as nice, especially this week when the weather has been so cold and rainy! The weather is changing and I could not be more excited about the cooler weather.

One last thing... How can you not believe in God when you see things like this driving home?
Our God is amazing....
And I am blessed....
Love y'all! :)
